Understanding Power of Attorney
Owen Hodge Lawyers is able to come to your group and talk on areas of law relevant to the circumstances of Carers and particular in the recent changes to Power Of Attorney obligations. Carers' roles can include caring for young children to young adults with disabilities and partners with disabilities, frail aged or dementia.
- The New Power of Attorney Act
- Estate Planning
- Enduring Guardianships
- Special Disability Trust
Changes to Power of Attorny - Legislation as of 20 September 2006 will allow parents, grandparents, siblings and legal guardians of severely disabled children the opportunity to transfer up to $500,000 of existing assets into a special trust for the child concerned, thereby allowing them to utilise a gifting exemption. The new rules will allow some families to access a Disability Support Pension for disabled children for the first time and gain an aged pension for the parents.
We have a specialist team that is able to visit your Carers group and discuss Power of Attorney and other changes.
