Tim was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1969, after graduating from the University of Sydney with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees. He is a member of the Law Society of New South Wales and is accredited by the Law Society as a Specialist in Business Law.

After his admission, Tim worked with a number of other firms and was in a partnership in Double Bay for 16 years before commencing his own legal practice, Southwell-Keely Law, in the heart of Sydney CBD. In his 18 years as a sole practitioner, Tim has developed a reputation for honesty, integrity and efficient service to his clients. Tim’s firm, Tim Southwell-Keely Law, merged with Owen Hodge Lawyers in May 2012 and Tim is now practising as Special Counsel in the City office of Owen Hodge Lawyers as a specialist WHS and Employment Lawyer.

Tim has more than 10 years’ experience in workplace relations and OH&S law. He advises employer and employee clients on all manner of workplace issues arising under various legislation, in particular the Fair Work Act (C’lth) 2009 and the former Occupational Health and Safety Act (NSW) 2000 (now repealed) and the Work Health and Safety Act (NSW) 2011. He applies his knowledge of such legislation to provide clients with practical advice regarding their WHS responsibilities and to assist them in WorkCover investigations.

He is also well practised in a wide range of legal areas, most notably the area of Business Law, where Tim deals with a wide scope of legal issues including contractual agreements, court disputes, business structures and intellectual property protection. Other areas of strength are estate law and estate planning, where Tim handles wills, establishes trusts and administers deceased estates, as well as obtaining grants of probate and letters of administration and acting in disputes over wills and in family provision claims.

Tim is involved in community service with the Rotary Club of Kings Cross which supports the community and disadvantaged groups in the inner east Sydney area. Tim has enjoyed working with it for over 20 years. Tim is also a legatee, being a member of the Eastern Region Division of Sydney Legacy.
